The emblem of RVS College of Engineering and Technology, Jamshedpur (RVSCET) features a flower-spread supporting a circular seal with the motifs of a gearwheel, computer, an open book with inkpot and quill pen, a lotus supporting a lamp and a dish antenna. The motifs are ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name of the college. A spanner and hammer and a pair of gears are placed on the left and right of the seal respectively. The motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) translates to ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’ is inscribed on a banner placed below the seal. The gearwheel denotes technology, engineering, interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the lamp symbolises the light of knowledge and the ethical development of society; the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; and the other motifs refer to the subject disciplines of science, engineering and technology. The emblem reflects the college's mission to contribute to the ethical, social and economic development of society through value-based technical education.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
