MEDINIRAI MEDICAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL, PALAMU (MMCH PALAMU)

The emblem of Medinirai Medical College and Hospital, Palamu (MMCH Palamu) features the Staff of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined by a pair of serpents and ensconced by a blue circular border inscribed with the name of the college and its place in Devanagari and English. The Palamu Fort and an open book form the background. Below the seal, on a blue banner, the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः’ (1.4.14, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad), which translates to ‘May All be Healthy’ is inscribed. The Staff of Caduceus symbolises medicine and medical profession; the book symbolises the accumulation and dissemination of medical knowledge and the academic foundation of the institution; and the Palamu Fort is a significant local landmark in the Medininagar region, rooting the college in its local heritage.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
