DUMKA (DUMKA MEDICAL COLLEGE) |
The emblem of Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital, Dumka (Dumka Medical College) features the winged Staff of Caduceus entwined by a pair of serpents, the official emblem of the State of Jharkhand and a pair of hands protecting a traditional lamp with flame. The motifs are supported on sides by a pair of laurels and surmounted by the name and place of the college. An open book with the inscription of the year of establishment of the college is placed below the laurels and its motto in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दते अमृतम्’ (Mantra 2.4, Kenopanishad), which translates to ‘Immortality Through Knowledge’ is written at the bottom. The Staff of Caduceus symbolises medicine and medical profession; the book symbolises the accumulation and dissemination of medical knowledge and the academic foundation of the institution; the laurels are symbols, which represent victory, honour and academic excellence; and the lamp with hands are the hands of healing.
