The emblem of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad (GNC Dhanbad) features an open book inscribed with the Gurmukhi letter ‘ੴ)’ (Ik Onkar) and surmounted by the motto of the college in Gurmukhi ‘ਜਿਉ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਿਟੰਤੁ’ meaning ‘As the light of knowledge dawns, ignorance is dispelled 'As the Light of Knowledge Dawns, Ignorance is Dispelled’ and placed on a glowing sun. The seal is supported by a black banner inscribed with the name of the college and on a red banner, the name of the place is written. ‘ੴ)’ (Ik Onkar) represents the ‘One Supreme Reality’ or the ‘Oneness of God’; the book represents the Guru Granth Sahib, the central religious scripture of Sikhism and the pursuit of academic excellence; and the sun symbolises the enlightenment and the spreading of knowledge, as envisioned by Guru Nanak.
