The emblem of Government Polytechnic, Koderma (GP Koderma) features the name of the place and a shield with blue outlines inscribed with the motifs of a gearwheel housing the images of a computer, an industrial set up, set of scientific instruments and a traditional lamp. The motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad), which translates to ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’ is inscribed on a blue banner placed below the pictorial. The shield represents protection, integrity and the formal institutional identity under state technical education; the gearwheel is a universal symbol for mechanical engineering, industrial progress and technical automation, reflecting the core polytechnic curriculum; the lamp signifies the enlightenment of the mind, the spread of wisdom and the destruction of ignorance through structured learning; and the other motifs refer to the subject disciplines offered at the polytechnic.
