The emblem of St. Xavier's College, Simdega (SXC Simdega) features a shield housing the motifs of a pair of gear wheels with an ear of grain, ‘IHS’ monogram, and a traditional lamp supported by the motto of the college in Latin ‘Lucens et Ardens’, which translates to ‘Spreading Light and Burning Bright’. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the gear wheels with ear of grain refer to engineering, technology and agriculture; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; and the ‘IHS’ monogram consists of the first three letters of the Greek name for Jesus (IHS from ΙΗΣΟΥΣ) and is the fixed emblem of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits).
