The blue and purple emblem of Government Polytechnic For Women, Jammu (GPW Jammu) features a traditional lamp housed in a gearwheel and surmounted by the name of the college. The name of the State is written on a banner placed above the seal and the name of the managing body is written on a banner placed below. The seal is crested by a mountain range and a crown. The gearwheel represents industry, engineering, manufacturing, technical education and technological progress; the lamp symbolises knowledge, enlightenment and the eradication of ignorance; the mountain range refers to Himalayas; and the crown represents excellence, honour, and the high standards of achievement expected from the students.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
