The initials of the college ‘SBHCON’ are written in green bold sans-serif capitals. The cross, which is the primary visual anchor representing faith, sacrificial love and the foundational Christian ethos of the institution supported by a pair of laurels and crowned by three stars; the laurels symbolise growth, honour, academic achievement, and victory. In healthcare education, it denotes professional excellence, healing and life; the lamp signifies the ‘Lady with the Lamp’, which is the universal symbol of the nursing profession, representing vigilance, continuous care, comfort, and the light of knowledge dispelling darkness; the stars denote high standards, aspiration, and the guidance needed to lead with integrity; the four quadrant imagery represents the institution's fourfold motto: ‘Education, Service, Leadership and Innovation’; the person with the book symbolises learning and education; and the humans in joy refer to achievement and success.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
