The golden shade emblem of Florence College of Nursing, Irba, Ranchi (FCN Irba) features a Nightingale Lamp supported by a stylised pair of hands and ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. Below the seal, the motto of the college ‘Service With Dedication’ is inscribed on a banner. The lamp is the universal symbol of the nursing profession. It references Florence Nightingale, known as ‘The Lady with the Lamp’. It symbolises clarity, hope, care and the dispelling of the darkness of illness through medical knowledge. The hands highlight the physical support, healing touch, gentleness, comfort and direct human care of nursing.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
