DEV BHOOMI UTTARAKHAND UNIVERSITY

The emblem of Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University (DBUU) is a monogram of its acronym ‘DBUU’ placed inside a glowing yellowish orange circle. It has eight red colour glow spikes. It is placed above a circle with a red outline. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘सिद्धिर्भवति कर्मजा’ (Shlok 12, Chapter 4, Bhagavad Gita) meaning ‘Success is Born of Actin’ is placed above the monogram and the name of its place is placed below. The glowing sun symbolises life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity; the glowing orangish yellow denotes happiness, energy, vitality, focus, happiness, joy, inspiration and creativity.

PARAVANI The Paravani, Mayil, Mayura or the peacock is the vahana or vehicle of the Lord Karthikeya, Murugan, Subrahmanya, Skanda, Kumara, Saravana, Arumukha, Devasenapati, Shanmukha, Kathirvela, Guha or Swaminatha. The legend has it that the demon king Surapadman, with the boon he received from the gods had become invincible. He believed that he was immortal and began tormenting all across the universe. Lord Kartikeya confronted the Surapadman and he evaded the Lord’s attacks. The demon transformed himself into a large tree near Tiruchendur. Lord Kartikeya using his Vel, the divine spear struck the tree and split Surapadman into two halves. The demon sought forgiveness from the Lord and transformed the halves into Mayil or peacock and a rooster. The logo of university has the ‘samai’ that is the lamp in the centre symbolising that Sanskrit is like the lamp that is mild yet powerfully showing the path of knowledge though its peculiar qualities like calmness, sacredness and guiding force.
