The circular insignia of Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology (MMMUT) has a blue gear wheel housing the motifs of a electrical transmission lines and tower, a dam on river, a monogram created using its acronym ‘MMMUT’, a nib of a pen on red rising sun, a pair of laurels supporting the monogram and its motto in Sanskrit ‘योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्’ (Verse 50, Chapter 2, Bhagavad Gita) meaning ‘Yoga is Skill in Action’. The gear wheel is ensconced by a white border with red and blue outlines which carries its name in Devanagari and English. The electric lines and tower and dam denotes the fields of engineering; the rising sun denotes life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity; the nib of a pen symbolises freedom, intelligence, creativity, professionalism, determination and diligence and the laurels denote ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
