The emblem of Noida International University (NIU)  is a green shield with a yellow outline, gold banner and a pair of golden laurels. The shield houses shining sun above water, a banner with its motto ‘Courage, Integrity, Honour’ written on and  its acronym ‘NIU’. The shield is supported by a pair of laurels at the bottom. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the rising sun represents life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity; the flowing water denotes life, motion and fertility; the laurels denote ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication; the colour green denotes agriculture, nature, growth, balance, harmony, environment, prosperity, vitality, prestige, wealth and being very down to earth and the colour yellow denotes happiness, energy, vitality, focus and creativity.

In Tamil, ‘ma’ means Mango and kolam means rangoli pattern, suggesting a possible Tamil origin for the Sanskrit word.

PARAVANI The Paravani, Mayil, Mayura or the peacock is the vahana or vehicle of the Lord Karthikeya, Murugan, Subrahmanya, Skanda, Kumara, Saravana, Arumukha, Devasenapati, Shanmukha, Kathirvela, Guha or Swaminatha. The legend has it that the demon king Surapadman, with the boon he received from the gods had become invincible. He believed that he was immortal and began tormenting all across the universe. Lord Kartikeya confronted the Surapadman and he evaded the Lord’s attacks. The demon transformed himself into a large tree near Tiruchendur. Lord Kartikeya using his Vel, the divine spear struck the tree and split Surapadman into two halves. The demon sought forgiveness from the Lord and transformed the halves into Mayil or peacock and a rooster.
