The yellow octagon shaped emblem of JSPM'S Jaywantrao Sawant College of Engineering (JSPMJSCOE) features an open book supporting a circle housing the motifs of a gramophone record player, a computer, a set of gears, and a satellite dish antenna. The circle is surmounted by the name of the college and supported by the name of the place. The octagon symbolises the Vishnu portion of the phallus, a symbolic representation of creative and spiritual power; the book refers to learning, education, knowledge and wisdom and the other motifs refer to the subject disciplines of engineering.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
