The ship-shaped emblem of V.O.Chidambaram College (VOC College) houses the motifs of a ship on the ocean; a lotus and a swan. The ship on the ocean refers to the shipping operations carried out by the nationalist Shri V. O. Chidambaram Pillai against the British imperialism; the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; and the swan is a sacred bird and are symbols of grace and beauty. Below the emblem, the motto of the college in Tamil ‘அன்பு அறிவு அறம்’ meaning ‘Love Wisdom Virtue’ is written.

KIIT owes its existence to the vision of its founder Prof. Achyuta Samanta. The green colour emblem of the institute has a bottom half of a gear wheel supporting the acronym ‘KIIT’ of its name in which the two ‘i’s depicting two humans.
