The emblem of Thiagarajar College features a shield housing the emblem of a temple gopuram, an open book, a veena, a waterbody with lotus, fish and an elephant. The shield is crested by a rising sun and supported by a banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘அறிவும் அன்புமே சிவம்’ (270, Thirumandiram, Thirumoolar) meaning ‘Only Knowledge and Love are Lord Shiva’. The sun symbolises life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity; the shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the gopuram refers to the Goddess Meenakshi Temple of Madurai; the book refers to learning, education, knowledge and wisdom; the veena refers to music and fine arts; the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the fish symbolises abundance, fertility, prosperity, and spiritual liberation; and the elephant signifies power, strength, unity and wisdom.
