The emblem of the National Engineering College (NEC) features a gearwheel housing the motifs of a map of India, computer and a satellite placed inside a circle circumscribed with its name and place. Its motto in Tamil ‘அறிவே ஆக்கம்’ meaning ‘Knowledge is Creation’ is placed below the gearwheel and its year of establishment is placed at the bottom. The gearwheel denotes interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the map refers to the college's pan Indian approach; and the computer and satellite refers to the domains of engineering studies.

KIIT owes its existence to the vision of its founder Prof. Achyuta Samanta. The green colour emblem of the institute has a bottom half of a gear wheel supporting the acronym ‘KIIT’ of its name in which the two ‘i’s depicting two humans. The gear wheel symbolises interconnectedness; efficiency and precision; progress and advancement; synchronisation and timing and order and structure. The colour green symbolises agriculture, nature, growth, balance, harmony, environment, prosperity, vitality, prestige, wealth and being very down to earth.
