GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING COLLEGE, THRISSUR (GECTCR)

The triangular shaped emblem of Government Engineering College, Thrissur (GECTCR) features the motifs of a combustion engine,  sprocket wheel, a building and an electrical transmission tower ensconced by a triangular outline with a coconut tree placed in the centre. On a banner, placed below the triangle the college’s motto in Sanskrit ‘योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्’ (Verse 8, Chapter 3, Bhagavad Gita) meaning ‘Yoga is Skill in Action’ is inscribed. At the bottom the name of the college is written. The coconut tree represents the locale; the triangle denotes balance, harmony and divine energy; and the other motifs refer to the branches of engineering taught in the college.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
