The emblem of Mahatma Basaweshwar Education Society's College of Engineering (MBESCE) features a purple gearwheel housing the motifs of a workbench, a silhouette motif of Mahatma Basaweshwar, a satellite dish antenna and an open book within a circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. On the gearwheel, at the top, a computer is placed and at the bottom, on a banner, the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘सत्यमेव जयते’ meaning ‘Truth Alone Triumphs’ is inscribed. The gearwheel denotes technology, engineering, interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the book refers to learning, education, knowledge and wisdom; and the other motifs refer to the subject disciplines of engineering and technology.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
