The emblem of Nagnathappa Halge Engineering College (NHCE) features an open book placed in a circular background of a traditional lamp ensconced by a black and red borders and a glowing sun. This assemblage is supported by three circles with the motifs of a diagram of an atom, a gearwheel, and spacecraft symbolising engineering and technology. At the bottom, the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’ is inscribed. The book symbolises learning, education, knowledge and wisdom; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; and the sun represents life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity.
