The Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIIT-A) was established in 1999, as a centre of excellence in Information Technology and allied areas. The institute was conferred the ‘Deemed University’ status by the Government of India in the year 2000. The emblem of IIT-A has ‘@’ spreading its reach symbolising the reach of information technology, which is ensconced by a horn like shape of water representing the ‘Triveni’ tri-junction of rivers and the acronym and name of the city at its bottom, supported by a pair of red handles representing the control ‘handles of a gaming console. At the bottom of the emblem on a white border its tagline in Sanskrit ‘प्रज्ञानम् ब्रह्म’ meaning ‘Consciousness is Brahman'.
