NO. 18 SQUADRON

The No. 18 Squadron, also called Flying Bullets, is a ground-attack unit of the Indian Air Force, flying from AFS Kalaikunda. The Squadron was formed on April 15, 1965, with five Folland Gnats and eleven pilots. The squadron currently operates MiG 27s from AFS Kalaikunda. The crest consists of a flying bullet with the Ashoka Lion on top and the Squadron’s motto ‘Theevra aur Nirbhaya’ meaning ‘Swift and Fearless' written below.

The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi.
