UTTAR PRADESH POLICE

With an approximate area of 2,36,286 square kilometre and a population of over sixteen crores, Uttar Pradesh (UP) has the distinction of being the largest single police force not only in the country but of the entire world. The Director General of UP Police commands a force of about 1,70,000 personnel spread over 72 districts, 33 armed battalions and other specialised wings and branches covering to Intelligence, Investigation, Anti-corruption, Technical, Training, Forensic Science etc. The emblem of the Uttar Pradesh Police shows the twin fishes - Matsya from the state emblem surrounded by a garland and crested with the emblem of India. SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
