The shield-shaped emblem of Vivekananda College, Agasteeswaram (VKC) features an image of Shri Devi Kanyakumari Amman, a ‘Kuthuvilakku’ (a traditional lamp), sunrise over sea, a waterbody with a red lotus and a swan. The motto of the college in Tamil ‘உள்ளத்தனையது உயர்வு’ and in Sanaskrit ‘यो यच्छ्रद्धः स एव सः’ (Chapter 17, Verse 3, Bhagavad Gita) meaning ‘As a man's faith is, so is he’. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the Goddess refers to the place of the college ‘Kanyakumar’, her grace, blessings and divine guidance; the rising sun with sea refers to the scene of Kanyakumari, which is famous for its surprise and sunset; The swan represents discernment, purity, and the pursuit of knowledge; the lotus is a classic symbol of enlightenment, growth, and rising above worldly attachments to achieve spiritual and intellectual purity; the lamp symbolises the light of knowledge dispelling the darkness of ignorance.
