The shield-shaped emblem of Bethlahem College of Education (Bethlahem BEd) houses the motifs of a a cross, a pair of crests of paddy, an open book, a star and a handshake along with the texts of ‘Blessings’ and ‘Bethlahem’. Below the shield, on a banner, the motto of the college ‘Arise and Shine’ is written. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the cross refers to Christianilty and the college’s religious affiliation; the book refers to knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the paddy refers to agriculture, nature, sustenance and growth; the star refers to divine guidance and blessings; and the handshake  refers to goodwill, agreement, or farewell, representing trust, respect, and equality.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
