VEL TECH RANGA SANKU ARTS COLLEGE (VELRSAC)

The emblem of Vel Tech Ranga Sanku Arts College (VELRSAC) features a five petal flower spread holding the motifs of  ‘ॐ’, a flower spread, a torch with flame, a crescent with star and a cross. A ‘Vel’ or spear of Lord Muruga is placed in the centre of the flower. The flower is ensconced by a blue circular border inscribed with the name and the college’s motto ‘The Vision The Virtues The Ventures’. The ‘Vel’ is the divine spear of Lord Muruga or Shanmuga. According to Shaiva tradition, the goddess Parvati presented the Vel to her son Murugan, as an embodiment of her shakti, in order to vanquish the asura Surapadman. The motifs refer to different religions and their equality and co-existence. The flower refers to beauty, simplicity, charm and grace.

The central motifs of the winged Staff of Caduceus entwined by a pair of serpents crested with a flaming torch, supported by an open book and a pair of laurels replace the Lion Capital; and the name, place and motto of the college replace the name of the State. The motto of the college in Sanskrit is ‘विद्यया विन्दते अमृतम्’ (Mantra 2.4, Kenopanishad), which translates to ‘Immortality Through Knowledge’. The Staff of Caduceus symbolises medicine and medical profession; the book symbolises the accumulation and dissemination of medical knowledge and the academic foundation of the institution; the torch with flame is an emblem of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power; and the laurels are symbols, which represent victory, honour and academic excellence.
