The emblem of Arumugam Pillai Seethai Ammal College (APSA College) features the gopuram of the famous Sri Brahmapureeswarar Temple, where a 6-foot idol of Lord Brahma meditates in a lotus posture supporting a ‘kuthuvilakku’ (a traditional lamp) and supported by a blue banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘உள்ளுவதெல்லாம் உயர்வுள்ளல்’  (596, Thirukkural, Thiruvalluvar) meaning ‘All One thinks About Should be About High Things’. Below these, the motifs of a veena, a lotus and palmleaf manuscript are placed. The assemblage is ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. The gopuram of the temple is the local landmark and represents divine blessings and guidance; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the veena refers to arts, heritage and culture; the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; and the palmleaf manuscript refers to literature, heritage and history.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. WESTERN AIR COMMAND The origin of the Western Air Command can be traced back to the nascent years of independent India, when the various formations of the Air Force were organised into two groups.
