The violet and light yellow colour shield shaped emblem of Sahyadri Valley College of Engineering & Technology (SVCET) features the initials of the college ‘SVCET’ supported by the motif of ‘Sahyadri Valley’, a gearwheel, a diagram of an atom, an open book and its motto ‘Valley of Knowledge’. Below the shield, on a banner, the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘विद्या विनयं पात्रताम् सुखम्’ (Hitopadesha) meaning ‘Knowledge, Humility Comes Eligibility and Happiness’ is inscribed. A pair of laurels support the seal. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the gearwheel and atom refers to science, engineering and technology; the book refers to knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; and the laurels are symbols of ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.

WESTERN AIR COMMAND The origin of the Western Air Command can be traced back to the nascent years of independent India, when the various formations of the Air Force were organised into two groups. On July 22, 1949 the No 1 Operational Group was re-designated as the Operational Command. The Command assumed its present name of Headquarters Western Air Command on June 10, 1963. Headquarters Western Air Command, located at Subroto Park, New Delhi, has over 200 bases placed under its command and has been involved in all major operations in India since independence. Due to its geographical location the Command has always been the hub-centre of all operational activities during any operation. It also depicts the global character of preventive, promotive and curative medicine. The motto ‘Health for all’ reflects the objective of the medical university. The circular emblem has a caduceus, the staff of Hermes staff entwined with a snake with a backdrop of a banyan tree and crested by a sun has a yellow banner at the bottom which says in Tamil ‘நோயற்ற வாழ்வு’ meaning ‘A Disease-free Life’.
