The emblem of Thavathiru Santhalinga Adigalar Arts, Science and Tamil College (TSA College) features a shield supported by a pair of laurels and three stars. The shield houses the motifs of an open book with a pair of wings inscribed with the Tamil letter ‘ழ’, a traditional lamp and a palmleaf script. The name of the college is written on the right in blue sans-serif capitals with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘அன்பு அறிவு ஆற்றல்’ meaning ‘Love Knowledge Power’ written below. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the book with wings symbolises liberation through knowledge, imagination, and the ability of literature to transport readers beyond physical limitations; the letter ‘ழ’ (zha/ḻa) is profoundly symbolic, representing far more than just a sound in the Tamil language and it is widely considered an iconic emblem of Tamil identity, culture, and pride; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; and the palmleaf manuscript refer to knowledge, education, heritage and history. The laurels are symbols of ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication; and the three stars refer to the top quality and primacy.
