These are ensconced by a red circular border inscribed with the motto of the college ‘Wisdom Leads to Victory’. A mortarboard hat crests the seal. A yellow banner inscribed with the name of the college and place are placed on the circle at the bottom. The computer refers to science and technology; the book refers to education, learning and wisdom; the nib of a pen symbolises freedom, intelligence, creativity, professionalism, determination and diligence; the mortarboart hat or Oxford hat denotes educational achievement, equality, tradition and rights of passage; and the glowing flame symbolises a multifaceted blend of purification, transformation, knowledge, and divinity, often representing both destruction and renewal.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
