GOVERNMENT POLYTECHNIC, RANCHI (GP RANCHI) The purple emblem of Government Polytechnic, Ranchi (GP Ranchi) features a gearwheel housing the motifs of a factory with chimneys, mining towers and trees. The motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्’ (Verse 50, Chapter 2, Bhagavad Gita), which translates to ‘Yoga is Skill in Action’ is written on a banner placed below the gearwheel. The gearwheel is a universal symbol of mechanical engineering, industrial progress and automation; the factory symbolises manufacturing, manufacturing plants, and heavy engineering production. UNIVERSITY OF JAMMU The University of Jammu (UoJ) came into existence in 1969 through the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969 following bifurcation of the erstwhile University of Jammu and Kashmir. The circular emblem of the university has an open book supporting a lotus with a background of mountains and surmounted by atomic structure. These are ensconced by a yellow circular border which carries its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya,1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead me to Light’ on one side and its name in Kashmiri on the other side. The name of the university is written on A banner at the bottom.
