The emblem of Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science (BACAS) features a cross holding a grape vine with clusters of grapes held by a pair of palms and supported by a light blue banner inscribed with the motto of the college ‘To Grow in Service’. Below the banner, the initials of the college ‘CSI BASCAS’ is written. Overall the emblem looks like a bishop's mitre (hat) signifying wisdom and spiritual authority, representing the college's namesake, Bishop Appasamy. The cross and the vine symbolises Christ as the true vine and believers as the branches, emphasizing connection, life, and spiritual growth (John 15:5). The grapes represent the fruits of the spirit and the Eucharist.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
