The emblem of Subramanya College of Arts And Science (SCAS) features a globe supporting a ‘Vel’, the sacred spear of Lord Muruga capped by a mortarboard hat and supported by a pair of laurels and the word ‘Subramanya’. The name of the college is written below the pictorial. The ‘Vel’ is the divine spear of Lord Muruga or Shanmuga. According to Shaiva tradition, the goddess Parvati presented the Vel to her son Murugan, as an embodiment of her shakti, in order to vanquish the asura Surapadman. The globe denotes education, knowledge, influence, timelessness, global unity and interconnectedness; the mortarboard hat or Oxford hat denotes educational achievement, equality, tradition and rights of passage; and the laurels are symbols of ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication.
