CENSUS OF INDIA

The emblem of Census of India features the abstract motifs of a pair of houses with six people in the National Tricolour referring to three families, each with a man, woman and a child emanating from the Dharma Chakra. The houses are crested by a full sun and supported by the year ‘2027’. The assemblage is ensconced by a blue circular border inscribed with its name in Devanagari ‘भारत की जनगणना’ and English ‘Census of India’. Below the seal, on a blue banner, the tagline of the organisation in Devanagari ‘जनगणना से जन कल्याण’ meaning ‘From Census to Public Welfare’. The Dharma Chakra or the Wheel of Dharma is the national symbol and it refers to perpetual action for dharma and justice; the houses and humans refer to those who are enumerated; the sun represents life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity.
