The emblem of Tagore College of Education, Gurdaspur (TCE) features a profile outline of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore placed along a purple swoosh inscribed with the name and place of the college and holding an orange flame and the college’s motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’ in its counter. The motto of the college ‘Education for Employment’ is written on a banner placed below the pictorial. The flame of fire symbolises transformation, purification, divine energy, and passion, serving as a powerful dual image of destruction and creation. The colour purple signifies royalty, nobility, luxury, power and ambition.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
