The emblem of Jabalpur Engineering College (JEC Jabalpur) features a maroon shield with yellow details and outline inscribed with an airplane surmounted by the name and place of the college and supported by a banner inscribed with the motto of the college ‘Onwards On Wings’. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; and the maroon colour symbolises strength, confidence and controlled passion. The stylised aircraft, which is directly linked to the college's historic and continuing strength in Electronics and Telecommunication (E&TC). JEC was the first institute in India to offer a bachelor's degree in this field and has long-standing ties to defense establishments.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
