The emblem of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, Bihta (NSIT) features a red sprocket wheel inscribed with the name of the college. In the center of the wheel, the motifs of a three pointed green star, a hammer with a spanner, a laptop computer, a stack of books and a building of a factory. The initials ‘NSIT’ and the motto of the college ‘An Effective Source of Technocrats’ are written on a yellow, red and green banner, which is placed below the wheel. The sprocket wheel denotes technology, engineering, interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the green star symbolises growth, innovation and creativity, reflecting the institution's aim to encourage creativity, innovations and quality; the books denotes knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; and the other motifs refer to the subject disciplines of science, engineering and technology.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
