GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING COLLEGE BOKARO (GEC BOKARO)

The emblem of Government Engineering College Bokaro (GEC Bokaro) uses the emblem of the Jharkhand University of Technology. This features the map of the State of Jharkhand placed inside a gear wheel supported by a traditional lamp and surmounted by its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya,1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’ is placed inside a white circle. The circle is ensconced by a red border with blue outline, which carries its name in Devanagari and English. The gear wheel symbolises interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the traditional lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity and the colour red symbolises passion, power, strength, courage, determination, energy and celebration.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
