The emblem of Jagannath Nagar College, Dhurwa, Ranchi (JN College) features a circular blue floral spread holding the motifs of a traditional lamp, an open book and its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya,1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’. The motifs are ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college and a pair of ears of wheat. The lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the book denotes knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the ears of wheat refers to agriculture; and the blue floral circle symbolises wholes, protection and eternity.

The central motifs of the winged Staff of Caduceus entwined by a pair of serpents crested with a flaming torch, supported by an open book and a pair of laurels replace the Lion Capital; and the name, place and motto of the college replace the name of the State. The motto of the college in Sanskrit is ‘विद्यया विन्दते अमृतम्’ (Mantra 2.4, Kenopanishad), which translates to ‘Immortality Through Knowledge’. The Staff of Caduceus symbolises medicine and medical profession; the book symbolises the accumulation and dissemination of medical knowledge and the academic foundation of the institution; the torch with flame is an emblem of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power; and the laurels are symbols, which represent victory, honour and academic excellence.
