The coloured panels of the shield are inscribed with the ‘Bowl of Hygieia’, an open book with a hand writing with a quill pen, a pair of gears, and a globe with a transmission tower. The shield is crested by a soaring eagle and supported by a yellow banner inscribed with the motto of the college ‘विद्यैव सर्वधनम्’ meaning ‘Knowledge Itself is the Greatest Wealth’. The name of the college is written at the bottom. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the Bowl of Hygieia represents the pharmaceutical sciences and healthcare education offered at the institute; the book symbolises knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the gearwheels and the tower with globe refer to the different subject disciplines of engineering. The soaring eagle (Garuda or Falcon) represents vision, strength, high aspirations, and the pursuit of excellence.

KIIT owes its existence to the vision of its founder Prof. Achyuta Samanta. The green colour emblem of the institute has a bottom half of a gear wheel supporting the acronym ‘KIIT’ of its name in which the two ‘i’s depicting two humans.
