HAZARIBAGH (SCC) |
The emblem of St. Columba's College, Hazaribagh (SCC) features a light blue shield inscribed with the motifs of a cross, a dove, elements like elements including a castle, a lion and a harp, a leopard (or panther) and a coiled serpent, along with the letter ‘M’ and a figure representing Saint Columba (an Irish abbot and missionary) standing before a rising sun. Below the shield, on a blue banner, the motto of the college in Latin ‘Domine Quis Habitabit?’ (opening of Psalm 15 in the Bible) meaning ‘Lord, who may dwell’ is written. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the lion, etc., are traditional heraldic symbols of Ireland and the University of Dublin, referencing the college's founding scion; the dove is a symbol associated with Saint Columba, whose name is derived from the Latin word for ‘dove’ (columba); and the leopard and others refer to the local fauna.
