Sardar Beant Singh State University (SBSSU), Gurdaspur was established by the Government of Punjab as an autonomous institution through registered society. The foundation stone was laid on February 28,1994 and the college was inaugurated on August 20, 1995 by the Chief Minister Sardar Beant Singh. The emblem of the university has a circular gear wheel outer with red circular outline. The central light colour circle has the motifs of a factory with smoking chimney, a dish antenna, a computer, a mechanical equipment and a banner with the motto in Punjabi ‘ਨਿਸਚੈ ਕਰ ਅਪਨੀ ਜੀਤ ਕਰੋ’ meaning ‘Make Sure You Win’ inscribed on it. These are ensconced by a yellow circular border, which carries the name of the university and its place. The gear wheel signifies interconnectedness; efficiency and precision; progress and advancement; synchronisation and timing and order and structure and the motifs denote the fields of engineering the university offers.
