RAVENSHAW UNIVERSITY |
Ravenshaw is the oldest institution of higher education in the state of Odisha and one of the oldest institutions of higher education in India. It was founded in 1868 with intermediate level classes at the Cuttack Zilla School (now Ravenshaw Collegiate School). It became widely known as Cuttack College until it was rechristened Ravenshaw College. Ravenshaw College was elevated to the status of a full-fledged university on November 15, 2006. The emblem of the university has a plaque which bears its motto in Sanskrit ‘ज्ञानमेव शक्ति’ meaning ‘Knowledge is the Power’ on top with the rest of the portion divided into three parts by the rivers of Mahanadi and Kathajodi, which are flowing in Cuttack. The first portion is having a reading table lamp; the second portion with a reading book stand with a scribe and the bottom portion is having an open book and the year of establishment of the university. The plaque is ensconced by a border which bears the name and place of the university.
