RAMAKRISHNA MISSION VIVEKANANDA EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE

The Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) is an initiative started by the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, the worldwide spiritual humanitarian organisation established by Swami Vivekanand. Established in 2005, RKMVERI is an institution deemed to be university. The insignia of the university has the emblem of the Ramakrishna Order supported by a yellow banner written ‘Ramakrishna Mission’. The emblem of the Ramakrishna Order was designed by Swami Vivekananda. It is a symbol of harmony and synthesis for reverential meditation. The goal is to realise, even in this very life, one's real Self, the self-effulgent Atman, the swan in the emblem and through this realisation to be free of all limitations, all bondages, all littleness. The motto of the Order is written on the border of the emblem in Sanskrit ‘तन्नो हंसः प्रचोदयात्’ meaning ‘May the (Paramatman, Supreme Self which is symbolised by the) Swan, awaken our understanding’. Swami Vivekananda said “The wavy waters in the picture are symbolic of karma, the lotus of bhakti and the rising sun of jnana. The encircling serpent is indicative of yoga and awakened Kundalini shakti, while the swan in the picture stands for Paramatman”.
