ARYABHATTA KNOWLEDGE UNIVERSITY

Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU), Patna has been established by the Government of Bihar for the development and management of educational infrastructure related to technical, medical, management and allied professional education in the state. The emblem of the university has a motif of a Mauryan era arch in brown colour, holding a drawing of an atom on a blue circle with a rising sun in the centre. Below the drawing on a banner, the motto of the of the university in Sanskrit ‘सत्यधर्माय दृष्टये’ (Verse 15, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘For the Law of the Truth for Sight’ is inscribed. The name of the university is written at the bottom in Devanagari and English. The arch denotes the State of Bihar and the Mauryan heritage; the drawing of atom denotes science and scientific temperament; the rising sun denotes light, life, energy, power, positivity and clarity; the colour brown symbolises earthiness, simplicity, stability, humility, warmth, reliability, endurance, timelessness and tradition and the colour blue denotes serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
