Puducherry Technological University (PTU) is the first State University of Union Territory of Puducherry, which was established on September 5, 2020 upon the elevation of erstwhile Pondicherry Engineering College - PEC (established in the year 1985) with the university status. The emblem of the university has a shield with elongated left corner has a white border with black border lines bearing its name and its motto ‘Fortifying with Wisdom’ divided by a a pair of floral bands. It houses the motifs of structure of an atom, a gear wheel, a bulb, an open book and sun all placed one below the other supported by a lotus on blue waters. On top of these at the bottom of these motifs on a brown banner its motto in Tamil ‘அறிவு அற்றம் காக்கும் கருவி’ (421, Thirukkural, Thiruvalluvar) meaning ‘True Wisdom Wards off Woes’ is kept. The atom and gear wheel represent engineering and technology; the bulb is symbolic of ideation and innovation; the open book denotes education, knowledge and wisdom; the sun represents light, illumination, life, energy, power, positivity and clarity; the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the water denotes life, wisdom, power, grace, music, and the undifferentiated chaos and the shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery.
