PUNJABI UNIVERSITY

Punjab Assembly established the Punjabi University, Patiala under the Punjab Act No. 35 of 1961. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India laid the foundation of Punjabi University on June 24, 1962. The emblem of the university has an open book supported by flowing rivers of Punjab. The motto of the university is written on the book in Punjabi ‘ਵਿਦਿਆ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ’ (Ang 356.2, Hukumnama) ) meaning ‘Contemplate and Reflect upon Knowledge and You will Become a Benefactor to Others’. All these are ensconced by a yellow circular border which carries its name and place in Punjabi. The English version of this is written on a banner placed on the circle at the bottom.

SSM COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, PATTAN (SSMCE PATTAN) The emblem of SSM College of Engineering, Pattan (SSMCE Pattan) features a brown circular border inscribed with the name of the college and its motto ‘Education Par Excellence’, housing the motifs of a person and another person reading an open book. The circle is supported by a pair of laurels. The one with the mortarboard hat is the teacher and the other one is the student; the book refers to the knowledge and education imparted by the faculty in the college; the laurels are symbols of ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication; and the colour brown signifies the earthiness, simplicity, stability, humility, warmth, reliability, endurance, timelessness and tradition.

MAULANA AZAD NATIONAL URDU UNIVERSITY Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament in 1998. The logo of the university has two strokes of orange and green forming the shape of ‘U’ in tricolour and has a ‘Ashoka Chakra’ at its top. This is supported by an open book on which images of an atom and a burning candle are depicted. Its name is written in Urdu atop the emblem on a banner; written in Devanagari on a banner above the logo and in English at its bottom. The book represents knowledge and education; the atom denotes science and the candle denotes light and guidance to discover the unknown.

KASHMIR COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY, SRINAGAR (KCET SRINAGAR) The blue colour emblem of Kashmir College of Engineering and Technology, Srinagar (KCET Srinagar) features a gearwheel housing the motifs of a chinar leaf, a diagram of an atom, a pair of torches and its initials ‘KCET’. The gearwheel ; the chinar leaf refers to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir; the atom refers to science, engineering and technology; the torches with flames are emblems of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power; and the colour blue signifies serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty.

SANT GAHIRA GURU VISHWAVIDYALAYA The circular emblem of Sant Gahira Guru Vishwavidyalaya (SGCG), formerly known a s Sarguja University has a circular border in orange and green and has its name, place and motto inscribed in Devanagari and supported by a pair of tribal ornaments. The motto is written in Sanskrit which is an extract from the Kathopanishad ‘विद्ययाऽमृतमश्नुते’, (Shloka 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Immortality is Gained from Learning’. Inside the border, motifs of a drum, supported by a pair of horns; an open book topped by a red sun ; a banyan tree and a pair of crests of millets are placed. The banyan tree symbolises strength, individuality, expression, calmness, growth, the interconnectedness of everything and perpetuity; the sun denotes life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity; the open book denotes knowledge, education, wisdom and learning and horns, drum and crests of millets denote tribal culture and food.

JHARKHAND GOVERNMENT TOOL ROOM, DUMKA (GTRTC DUMKA) The emblem of Jharkhand Government Tool Room, Dumka (GTRTC Dumka) features a blue gearwheel housing the motifs of a spanner with a pallet knife, a pair of gear wheels and a computer. The gearwheel is ensconced by a circular border with brown outlines inscribed with the name and place of the college. The seal is supported by a pair of laurels. The motto of the college in Sanskrit in Sanskrit ‘योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्’ (Verse 50, Chapter 2, Bhagavad Gita), which translates to ‘Yoga is Skill in Action’ is written on a green banner with red outlines. The gearwheel denotes education, knowledge, influence, timelessness, global unity and interconnectedness; the laurels are symbols of ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication; and the other motifs refer to the subject disciplines offered by the college.

ICAR-INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SUGARCANE RESEARCH The purple and green emblem of ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research (IISR) is a wordmark resembling a sugarcane with its vegetative nodes, stalks and sheath-like leaves. The ‘i’s are topped with a gear wheel and  red circle symbolising industrial production and productivity. The letters ‘S’ and ‘R’ are written like a pen to denote research and reporting. GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE, BIJBEHARA (GDC BIJBEHARA) The emblem of Government Degree College, Bijbehara (GDC Bijbehara) features a green chinar leaf supporting an open book inscribed with an Arabic text ‘خَيْرُ جَلِيسٍ فِي الزَّمَانِ كِتَابُ’, which translates to ‘The Best Companion in Time is a Book’ and supporting a lighted candle and ensconced by a yellow circular border inscribed with the name, place and motto of the college. The motto in Urdu ‘زندگی شمع کی صورت ہو خدایا میری’, which translates to ‘O God! May My Life Be Like That of a Candle’. The chinar leaf refers to Jammu and Kashmir, the book denotes knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; and the lighted candle symbolises enlightenment and the removal of darkness (ignorance), representing how knowledge guides a student's path and spreads light into society.
