RABINDRA BHARATI UNIVERSITY
RABINDRA BHARATI UNIVERSITY |
Rabindra Bharati University was founded on May 8, 1962, under the Rabindra Bharati Act to mark the birth centenary of poet Rabindranath Tagore at his residential house at Kolkata. The emblem of the university is a modified version of Vishva Bharati University in square shape with woodcut like elements dividing the square into six parts. The upper part bears the name of the university in Bengali and in the centre a lotus with sixteen petals holding a book of palm leaf manuscript. The side panels house a pen in one and a vina and the bottom panels hold a swastika, its name in Devanagari and a mask of folk dance. The palm leaf book symbolises education, knowledge and wisdom; the lotus symbolises purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the pen represents freedom, intelligence, creativity, professionalism, determination and diligence; the vina represents music, arts and dance; the swastika denotes well being and good fortune; and the mask represents folk arts, crafts, and other performing arts.
