ANDHRA KESARI UNIVERSITY

Andhra Kesari University is not just one of the oldest educational institutions in the country, but is also the first to be conceived as a residential and teaching-cum-affiliating University, mainly devoted to postgraduate teaching and research. It has its origin in 1926. The University College of Arts was inaugurated on July 1, 1931 with courses in Telugu language and literature, history, economics and politics. Its emblem has a torch held by an open book and circumscribed by a decorative border with border lines in gold colour. At the bottom, on a gold banner its acronym ‘AKU’ is written. The torch is an emblem of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power and the book symbolises knowledge, education and wisdom.
