Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. MDNIY is a focal institute for planning, training, promotion and coordination of yoga education, training, therapy and research in all its aspects. The main vision and mission of the institute is ‘Health, Harmony and Happiness for all through Yoga’. The emblem of the university is a person seated in a yoga posture in reddish brown colour in a backdrop of rising sun. It is surmounted by its name in Devanagari and supported by its acronym at the bottom. On the yoga motif its motto ‘समत्वं योग उच्यते’ (Shloka 48, Chapter 2, Srimad Bhagavad Gita) is written in Sanskrit. It means ‘Evenness of Mind is the Yoga’

MANKOLAM Mankolam, the abstract image of mango and the paisley design is shaped like a mango and associated with Lord Ganesha. Mangos are the sweetest of fruits, symbolizing auspiciousness and the happy fulfillment of legitimate worldly desires. In Sanskrit the design is known as mankolam and has long been used in India. In Tamil, ‘ma’ means Mango and kolam means rangoli pattern, suggesting a possible Tamil origin for the Sanskrit word.

PARAVANI The Paravani, Mayil, Mayura or the peacock is the vahana or vehicle of the Lord Karthikeya, Murugan, Subrahmanya, Skanda, Kumara, Saravana, Arumukha, Devasenapati, Shanmukha, Kathirvela, Guha or Swaminatha. The legend has it that the demon king Surapadman, with the boon he received from the gods had become invincible. He believed that he was immortal and began tormenting all across the universe. Lord Kartikeya confronted the Surapadman and he evaded the Lord’s attacks. The demon transformed himself into a large tree near Tiruchendur. Lord Kartikeya using his Vel, the divine spear struck the tree and split Surapadman into two halves. The demon sought forgiveness from the Lord and transformed the halves into Mayil or peacock and a rooster.
