The National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), a Deemed to be University since August 2006, was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The emblem of the institute in reddish brown has a pair of hands holding an open book and a lamp. These are ensconced by a circular border with red outlines bearing its name. Above the border its name is written in Devanagari. The lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity and the open book denotes education, knowledge and wisdom. The institute plays the role of the mentor in the endeavour of educational planning and administration.
